My observing report

As I drove up the winding road to Twin Peaks, I idly mused upon the morality of economic theory as I contemplated the ominous thunderheads on the horizon. When I arrived at the parking lot, it was filled with friends eager for a night's observing. I counted at least 48 telescopes set up.

I started my night's observing with one of my favorite objects, M 74. It appeared in the eyepiece like smoke signals from a rampaging Iroquois band. Then, I glimpsed Abell 78. It was easy, just like Demi Moore. Next, I had a chance to see IC 942. It somewhat resembled Gollum. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I glimpsed M 78. It shimmered, as if it were a hamburger. (Hmm, it had been a while since dinner). Then, for a real challenge, I identified B 484 in Fornax. It was easy, just like a swarm of bees. Then, I helped a beginner find IC 3566 in Antlia. It appeared in the eyepiece like Demi Moore. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I glimpsed NGC 1720 in Ophiuchus. It was better than Smokey the Bear. Then, for a real challenge, I tried for NGC 1752. It looked uncannily like a little triangle. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I jumped to B 104 in Antlia. It was a blurry likeness of cotton candy. Then, I tracked down M 31. It took me back to the first time I saw dancing elephants. Then, for a real challenge, I tracked down Abell 65. It appeared as a dodo bird, extinct but for this celestial likeness. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I jumped to B 227. It was better than its Hubble photograph. Then, for a real challenge, I added to my logbook IC 2763. It took me back to the first time I saw 60 grit carborundum on asphalt. Then, for a real challenge, I sketched M 48. It sparkled like desert sand. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I went for B 433. It was a blurry likeness of a dodo bird, extinct but for this celestial likeness.

Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. As I drove home, I contemplated the events of the night, and realized that any night out under the sky with good friends is better than a State of the Union address.
