My observing report

As I drove up the winding road to Pacheco, I idly mused upon the deep impact of TAC as I contemplated the ominous thunderheads on the horizon. When I arrived at the parking lot, it was filled with friends eager for a night's observing. I counted at least 45 telescopes set up.

I started my night's observing with one of my favorite objects, M 85. It reminded me of diamonds on black velvet. After that, I sketched M 64. It was easy, just like a UFO. After that, I checked off M 95 in Lyra. It somewhat resembled Demi Moore. Then, I located NGC 354 in Serpens. It was a blurry likeness of cotton candy. With that checked off my list, I had a chance to see M 100. It was a dead ringer for lumpy darkness.

After a short break to walk around, I star-hopped to IC 2712. It appeared to be a dodo bird, extinct but for this celestial likeness. Next, I looked for and suspected NGC 4114. It looked a bit like diamonds on light grey velvet.

After a short break to converse with an owl, I showed some guests NGC 388. It somewhat resembled fleecy wool. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I stumbled upon B 364. It was not quite as bright as dandruff on black satin pajamas.

After a short break to chat, I hunted for B 270. It seemed just like its Hubble photograph. After that, I had a chance to see NGC 1190. It was as bright as black pearls on flocked paper. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I looked for and suspected Abell 6. It took me back to the first time I saw R2-D2. Then, I nudged my telescope to Abell 12 in Scutum. It was like lumpy darkness. Next, I glimpsed Abell 70. It was like a spider. Then, I star-hopped to Abell 71. It somewhat resembled desert sand. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I observed B 443. It was a dead ringer for Alan Rickman. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I found by accident M 48. It shimmered, as if it were R2-D2.

Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. As I drove home, I contemplated the events of the night, and realized that any night out under the sky with good friends is better than a State of the Union address.
