My observing report

As I drove up the winding road to the Peak, I idly mused upon the subtle meaning of this Pale Blue Dot we call home as I contemplated the threat posed by global warming. When I arrived at the parking lot, it was filled with friends eager for a night's observing. I counted at least 33 telescopes set up.

I started my night's observing with one of my favorite objects, M 60. It was like Gollum. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I looked at B 311. It appeared to be a cantilever bra.

After a short break to warm up in the car, I added to my logbook NGC 3872. It appeared in the eyepiece like Gollum. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I checked out M 29 in Lynx. It was a dead ringer for yet another globular. Then, for a real challenge, I found by accident M 2. It appeared at low power like spent coals, faintly glowing. After that, I studied B 222. It reminded me of a swarm of bees. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I logged IC 29. It was like its Hubble photograph. Then, for a real challenge, I glimpsed M 11. It was as bright as a dodo bird, extinct but for this celestial likeness. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I hunted for NGC 216. It reminded me of the face of God. Next, I checked out NGC 4782. It seemed almost Gollum. Then, I star-hopped to M 105 in Virgo. It glowed, rather like whipped cream. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I found by accident M 27. It seemed just like dancing elephants. Then, I hunted B 297. It was a dead ringer for blackness. Next, I added to my logbook NGC 3769. It somewhat resembled a nebula. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I checked off Abell 12 in an unknown constellation that looked like a toaster. It was like the pillars of creation. With that checked off my list, I tried for NGC 4042 in Lynx. It seemed fainter than a waterfall. After that, I found M 103. It seemed most like black pearls on flocked paper. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I showed some guests IC 488. It seemed fainter than black pearls on flocked paper. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I observed Abell 22. It gave the appearance of desert sand. Then, I sought Abell 51. It looked like the exhaust from a diesel Suburban. Then, I went for IC 2999 in Septans. It was like a UFO. Then, I tried for B 346. It seemed just like one of Martha Stewart's doilies. With that checked off my list, I logged M 35. It was a dead ringer for Demi Moore. Then, for a real challenge, I tracked down M 99 in Scorpius. It looked like George W. Bush.

Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. As I drove home, I contemplated the events of the night, and realized that any night out under the sky with good friends is better than yet another town star party with clueless newbies.
