As I drove up the winding road to my home observatory, I idly mused upon the subtle beauty of Yahoo P/E ratios as I contemplated the low fog. Would it rise, or not?. When I arrived at the parking lot, it was filled with friends eager for a night's observing. I counted at least 9 telescopes set up.
I started my night's observing with one of my favorite objects, M 53 in Ursa Major. It somewhat resembled a little triangle. Then, for a real challenge, I jumped to IC 2331. It reminded me of Demi Moore.
After a short break to drink a slurpie, I identified IC 2338. It compared favorably with a glimmer of the Big Bang. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I tried for NGC 3794. It took me back to the first time I saw nothing I'd ever seen before. Then, I checked out M 3. It gave the appearance of a little triangle. Then, I star-hopped to M 56 in Scutum. It compared favorably with nothing I'd ever seen before. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I jumped to IC 3170. It was easy, just like a waterfall. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I glimpsed Abell 99. It reminded me of Dubya. Then, I identified IC 2460 in Lyra. It looked a bit like a Black Rider hunting for Frodo.
Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. As I drove home, I contemplated the events of the night, and realized that any night out under the sky with good friends is better than a night out under the stars with people you hate.
