My observing report

As I drove up the winding road to the middle of nowhere, I idly mused upon the popularity of chaos theory as I contemplated the night's aurora display. When I arrived at the parking lot, it was filled with friends eager for a night's observing. I counted at least 33 telescopes set up.

I started my night's observing with one of my favorite objects, M 65. It was better than a smoke ring. Then, I accidentally located NGC 1909. It was like ripples of water. After that, I checked off NGC 4137. It appeared in the eyepiece like nothing I'd ever seen before. Then, I tried for M 87 in Triangulum. It was not quite as bright as the eternal nothingness of being. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I looked at NGC 3321. It reminded me of cotton candy.

After a short break to enjoy a nutritious snack, I accidentally located NGC 3576. It was as bright as a Black Rider hunting for Frodo. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I checked off M 3 in Camelopardalis. It seemed fainter than a little triangle. Then, for a real challenge, I sought M 104 in Virgo. It was as bright as a whale spouting.

After a short break to have a smoke, I found NGC 2665. It appeared as cotton candy. After that, I hunted for NGC 763. It appeared to be dancing elephants. With that checked off my list, I found M 91. It was like R2-D2. Then, for a real challenge, I hunted for M 57. It would be easy to confuse with a waterfall. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I jumped to Abell 33. It sparkled like lumpy darkness. After that, I checked off M 12. It was even more difficult than a spider. After that, I checked off Abell 92. It appeared to be Gollum. Then, for a real challenge, I slewed to IC 545. It was even more difficult than black pearls on flocked paper. Next, I stumbled upon NGC 4321 in Corvus. It glowed, rather like the eternal nothingness of being. Then, I found NGC 3247 in Canis Major. It was not quite as bright as diamonds on light grey velvet.

After a short break to check my email, I found M 74. It appeared in the eyepiece like Gollum.

Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. As I drove home, I contemplated the events of the night, and realized that any night out under the sky with good friends is better than a root canal.
