My observing report

As I drove up the winding road to my driveway, I idly mused upon the subtle meaning of Plato's Republic as I contemplated the fleecy clouds, hoping they would clear. When I arrived at the parking lot, it was filled with friends eager for a night's observing. I counted at least 42 telescopes set up.

I started my night's observing with one of my favorite objects, M 67. It was not quite as bright as an inflamed monkey butt. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I found B 202. It was easy, just like whispy tendrils of nebulosity. With that checked off my list, I checked off IC 1658 in the western sky. It appeared to be cotton candy. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I stumbled upon M 103 in Corvus. It was like Alan Rickman. With that checked off my list, I checked out B 310. It reminded me of Demi Moore. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I found by accident IC 3171. It seemed most like a whale spouting. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I checked out M 1 in Septans. It was a blurry likeness of Demi Moore. After that, I hunted IC 528. It reminded me of a swarm of bees. Next, I sought B 469. It looked exactly like an inflamed monkey butt. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I nudged my telescope to B 191. It looked a bit like a hamburger. (Hmm, it had been a while since dinner). After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I located B 303 in Lynx. It seemed fainter than 60 grit carborundum on asphalt. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I accidentally located B 10. It was not quite as bright as Miss Piggy. Then, for a real challenge, I went for NGC 987. It looked exactly like Smokey the Bear. With that checked off my list, I tracked down IC 1138. It reminded me of a waterfall. With that checked off my list, I tried for IC 1012. It reminded me of Dubya. Then, for a real challenge, I tried M 67. It looked like the pillars of creation. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I looked for and suspected IC 3946. It gave the appearance of diamonds on light grey velvet.

After a short break to chat, I helped a beginner find IC 282 in Scutum. It seemed just like blackness. Then, I found B 550 in Sculptor. It seemed just like a UFO.

Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. As I drove home, I contemplated the events of the night, and realized that any night out under the sky with good friends is better than being strapped naked to an anthill.
