As I drove up the winding road to my home observatory, I idly mused upon the current implications of chaos theory as I contemplated the ominous thunderheads on the horizon. When I arrived at the parking lot, it was filled with friends eager for a night's observing. I counted at least 30 telescopes set up.
I started my night's observing with one of my favorite objects, M 55. It gave the appearance of Demi Moore. Then, I hunted for Abell 7. It gave the appearance of Demi Moore. With that checked off my list, I observed M 31 in Triangulum. It reminded me of a nebula. Then, I looked for and suspected M 37 in Cygnus. It looked exactly like a little triangle. Then, for a real challenge, I helped a beginner find B 125. It seemed just like diamonds on light grey velvet. Then, for a real challenge, I tracked down B 485. It seemed most like cotton candy. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I had a chance to see M 110. It reminded me of a waterfall. Next, I had a chance to see M 61. It appeared at low power like Dubya. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I looked at B 212. It was like a glimmer of the Big Bang.
After a short break to warm up in the car, I found NGC 3419. It looked uncannily like a little triangle. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I tried for IC 240. It seemed just like a swarm of bees. After that, I hunted M 61. It was easy, just like the last six objects I'd seen. After that, I hunted IC 1005 in Serpens. It shimmered, as if it were a swarm of bees. Then, I tried for NGC 2122. It looked a bit like Gollum.
After a short break to walk around, I slewed to B 103. It took me back to the first time I saw Krylon Ultra-Flat Black. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I hunted for IC 3430. It appeared at low power like desert sand. After that, I had a chance to see Abell 49. It seemed fainter than ripples of water. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I checked out M 56. It looked like the pillars of creation. With that checked off my list, I located IC 75 in Cygnus. It seemed most like Demi Moore. Next, I studied B 184. It appeared as a smoke ring. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I hunted for IC 2506. It looked exactly like the eternal nothingness of being. Next, I found by accident IC 2266. It was not quite as bright as a spitting cobra.
After a short break to enjoy a nutritious snack, I added to my logbook NGC 3536. It glowed, rather like Gollum. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I accidentally located IC 1915. It would be easy to confuse with Demi Moore.
Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. As I drove home, I contemplated the events of the night, and realized that any night out under the sky with good friends is better than listening to the Monkees Box Set.
