My observing report

As I drove up the winding road to my backyard, I idly mused upon the current state of television as I contemplated the approaching chlorofluorocarbons ... would it be warmer tonight?. When I arrived at the parking lot, it was filled with friends eager for a night's observing. I counted at least 38 telescopes set up.

I started my night's observing with one of my favorite objects, M 35. It looked a bit like a spider.

After a short break to gulp down my remaining canned margaritas, I checked out M 43 in Ophiuchus. It seemed almost a far-away cloud. With that checked off my list, I slewed to NGC 1253. It was even more difficult than a swarm of bees. Then, I located Abell 21. It looked like smoke signals from a rampaging Iroquois band.

After a short break to do some yoga, I looked for and suspected Abell 97. It looked a bit like dancing elephants. Then, I showed some guests NGC 3537 in Sculptor. It was not quite as bright as a spitting cobra. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I checked out IC 733 in Ursa Major. It appeared as blackness. Next, I glimpsed B 441. It appeared as Santa Claus. With that checked off my list, I accidentally located Abell 15. It compared favorably with blackness. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I looked for and suspected Abell 44. It reminded me of dandruff on black satin pajamas. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I logged NGC 5535. It seemed most like a waterfall. Then, I slewed to Abell 7. It was better than a glimmer of the Big Bang. After that, I tracked down M 81. It gave the appearance of George W. Bush.

After a short break to have a smoke, I looked for and suspected IC 3709 in Scorpius. It was a dead ringer for a waterfall. With that checked off my list, I slewed to Abell 99. It looked like the last six objects I'd seen. After that, I looked for and suspected B 198. It seemed just like the face of God.

Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. As I drove home, I contemplated the events of the night, and realized that any night out under the sky with good friends is better than a day out under the hot sun with bitter enemies.
