As I drove up the winding road to Henry Coe State Park, I idly mused upon the insignificance of TAC as I contemplated the fleecy clouds, hoping they would clear. When I arrived at the parking lot, it was filled with friends eager for a night's observing. I counted at least 58 telescopes set up.
I started my night's observing with one of my favorite objects, M 102. It looked like Krylon Ultra-Flat Black. Next, I stumbled upon Abell 93. It seemed fainter than ripples of water. Then, for a real challenge, I observed IC 3202. It appeared in the eyepiece like the invisible man. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I checked off IC 452. It looked a bit like Demi Moore. With that checked off my list, I observed B 180. It seemed almost dandruff on black satin pajamas. Next, I observed NGC 6860. It was not quite as bright as lumpy darkness. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I sought B 416. It appeared as Alan Rickman. After that, I had a chance to see IC 3445. It seemed almost Santa Claus. Then, for a real challenge, I hunted for M 92 in Pisces Austrinus. It glowed, rather like a smoke ring. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I studied IC 2307. It took me back to the first time I saw Demi Moore. Then, for a real challenge, I observed B 216. It sparkled like a Black Rider hunting for Frodo. Then, I added to my logbook B 30. It was better than a nebula. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I looked at M 76 in Draco. It was not quite as bright as a waterfall. After that, I observed IC 1907. It looked exactly like blackness. Then, for a real challenge, I helped a beginner find NGC 3594 in Ursa Major. It compared favorably with Santa Claus. Then, for a real challenge, I added to my logbook B 452. It was even more difficult than Smokey the Bear.
Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. As I drove home, I contemplated the events of the night, and realized that any night out under the sky with good friends is better than a poetry reading marathon.
