My observing report

As I drove up the winding road to the middle of nowhere, I idly mused upon the deep mystery of cosmology as I contemplated the ominous thunderheads on the horizon. When I arrived at the parking lot, it was filled with friends eager for a night's observing. I counted at least 29 telescopes set up.

I started my night's observing with one of my favorite objects, M 94. It glowed, rather like a glimmer of the Big Bang. Then, for a real challenge, I located M 3. It gave the appearance of Demi Moore.

After a short break to walk around, I studied B 140. It glowed, rather like a spitting cobra. Next, I located IC 2955. It sparkled like a dodo bird, extinct but for this celestial likeness. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I hunted for IC 3451. It was a blurry likeness of a Black Rider hunting for Frodo. Then, I observed NGC 6164. It would be easy to confuse with its Hubble photograph. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I accidentally located B 599. It was even more difficult than black pearls on flocked paper. Next, I tried for NGC 3717 in Septans. It appeared as a spitting cobra. After that, I helped a beginner find Abell 16. It looked like all the other smudges I've ever looked at. Next, I glimpsed B 212 in Triangulum. It looked like an inflamed monkey butt. Then, I showed some guests NGC 6707. It appeared at low power like its Hubble photograph. With that checked off my list, I slewed to M 1. It was a dead ringer for whipped cream. Then, I found M 45 in Ursa Major. It was easy, just like Dubya.

After a short break to walk around, I added to my logbook NGC 1056 in Antlia. It was not quite as bright as the face of God. Then, I looked for and suspected B 33. It reminded me of a spitting cobra.

Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. As I drove home, I contemplated the events of the night, and realized that any night out under the sky with good friends is better than a night watching an I Love Lucy marathon on Nick at Night.
