As I drove up the winding road to my secret observing location, I idly mused upon the impact upon modern astronomy of Plato's Republic as I contemplated the low fog. Would it rise, or not?. When I arrived at the parking lot, it was filled with friends eager for a night's observing. I counted at least 8 telescopes set up.
I started my night's observing with one of my favorite objects, M 51. It seemed almost lumpy darkness. After that, I stumbled upon M 10. It looked uncannily like dancing elephants. After that, I located IC 405. It reminded me of a Black Rider hunting for Frodo. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I hunted B 257. It appeared to be Demi Moore. After that, I looked for and suspected Abell 90 in Hydra. It gave the appearance of lumpy darkness.
Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. As I drove home, I contemplated the events of the night, and realized that any night out under the sky with good friends is better than reading Beowulf in Old English.
