In the Lassen campground were some strange-looking large bugs, one of which was kind enough to hold still while I set up a tripod and used the macro mode on my 70-300. I wondered whether this might be a Ponderosa pine bark beetle, based on a beetle book from the library, but a more knowledgeable naturalist tells me those are much smaller (less than 5 millimeters; this was more than ten times that size if you count the antennae). It's apparently most likely an Asian Longhorn Beetle (family Cerambycidae), an exotic pest.
