Elaine and I wondered about the lifecycle of the yuccas, and this one provided the answer. They grow a stalk, which eventually gets tall enough that it can't support the top, at which point it breaks or bends and falls over. Then a new yucca sprouts from the base, while -- we think -- the old top takes root in its new location and goes on.
