Close-up of the construction. The heart of an earthship is walls made of tires packed with dirt, then covered with adobe. Apparently this is very stable and very strong. For non load bearing walls, they pack adobe around recycled bottles or cans. A bottle-built wall can give a stained-glass effect inside, but there aren't any walls like that in the earthship you see on the basic tour.
