My observing report

As I drove up the winding road to the middle of nowhere, I idly mused upon the current state of underwater basket weaving as I contemplated the ominous thunderheads on the horizon. When I arrived at the parking lot, it was filled with friends eager for a night's observing. I counted at least 22 telescopes set up.

I started my night's observing with one of my favorite objects, M 72 in Lyra. It was a dead ringer for dandruff on black satin pajamas. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I tried for B 408. It seemed just like a smoke ring.

After a short break to munch cheesy poofs, I slewed to IC 474. It seemed almost Krylon Ultra-Flat Black. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I found by accident B 410 in the western sky. It was a blurry likeness of George W. Bush. Next, I looked at B 462 in Draco. It was easy, just like a hamburger. (Hmm, it had been a while since dinner). After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I stumbled upon B 478. It looked exactly like that graph in An Unpleasant Truth. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I located B 343 in Hydra. It reminded me of cotton candy. After that, I studied B 275. It seemed almost a hamburger. (Hmm, it had been a while since dinner).

Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. As I drove home, I contemplated the events of the night, and realized that any night out under the sky with good friends is better than a hot poker rammed up your nose.
