My observing report

As I drove up the winding road to Dinosaur Point, I idly mused upon the cosmological implications of Plato's Republic as I contemplated the past week of rain. When I arrived at the parking lot, it was filled with friends eager for a night's observing. I counted at least 1 telescopes set up.

I started my night's observing with one of my favorite objects, M 110. It reminded me of the eye of God. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I added to my logbook M 62. It would be easy to confuse with a spitting cobra. With that checked off my list, I helped a beginner find B 109. It reminded me of an inflamed monkey butt. Next, I found IC 2230. It shimmered, as if it were Alan Rickman.

After a short break to warm up in the car, I helped a beginner find B 187 in Canis Major. It was better than that graph in An Unpleasant Truth. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I hunted for NGC 5396. It would be easy to confuse with the invisible man. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I slewed to NGC 3891. It glowed, rather like desert sand. With that checked off my list, I slewed to IC 2004. It was even more difficult than dancing elephants. Then, for a real challenge, I checked off M 19. It somewhat resembled R2-D2. After that, I tried IC 515 in an unknown constellation that looked like a toaster. It seemed almost its Hubble photograph. With that checked off my list, I looked at NGC 3640. It appeared to be cotton candy. After that, I identified IC 3696. It gave the appearance of a swarm of bees. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I sought B 146. It gave the appearance of smoke signals from a rampaging Iroquois band. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I looked for and suspected Abell 22. It was easy, just like Gollum. Then, I helped a beginner find M 99. It would be easy to confuse with a Black Rider hunting for Frodo.

After a short break to find a bush to pee on, I accidentally located NGC 3349 in Antlia. It somewhat resembled a spider. Then, I nudged my telescope to Abell 83. It gave the appearance of lumpy darkness.

Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. As I drove home, I contemplated the events of the night, and realized that any night out under the sky with good friends is better than a hot poker rammed up your nose.
