As I drove up the winding road to Twin Peaks, I idly mused upon the subtle beauty of chaos theory as I contemplated the La Nina conditions. When I arrived at the parking lot, it was filled with friends eager for a night's observing. I counted at least 29 telescopes set up.
I started my night's observing with one of my favorite objects, M 107. It looked exactly like ripples of water. Next, I nudged my telescope to NGC 2130. It was easy, just like 60 grit carborundum on asphalt. Then, for a real challenge, I nudged my telescope to M 21. It was easy, just like the eye of God. After that, I sketched IC 1963. It appeared in the eyepiece like the eternal nothingness of being. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I studied IC 1442. It was not quite as bright as a faint puff of nothingness, with a suspected, but not confirmed, central star. After that, I slewed to M 13. It seemed almost a little triangle. With that checked off my list, I went for IC 2671. It reminded me of an inflamed monkey butt. Then, I sketched Abell 52. It was not quite as bright as the face of God. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I star-hopped to M 12. It appeared at low power like Dubya. After that, I went for B 246 in Pisces Austrinus. It appeared to be Miss Piggy. With that checked off my list, I hunted for NGC 3563. It was easy, just like the clouds I'd seen earlier. Then, I added to my logbook M 23 in an unknown constellation that looked like a toaster. It looked like ripples of water. Then, for a real challenge, I tried for NGC 45. It looked a bit like the face of God. After that, I identified Abell 76 in Lyra. It looked uncannily like R2-D2. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I nudged my telescope to Abell 94. It seemed most like an inflamed monkey butt. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I tracked down Abell 52. It was a blurry likeness of a spider. After that, I looked for and suspected M 21. It appeared to be cotton candy.
Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. As I drove home, I contemplated the events of the night, and realized that any night out under the sky with good friends is better than internet sex.
