As I drove up the winding road to Mount Tamalpais, I idly mused upon the inner workings of the human spirit as I contemplated the threat posed by global warming. When I arrived at the parking lot, it was filled with friends eager for a night's observing. I counted at least 0 telescopes set up.
I started my night's observing with one of my favorite objects, M 25. It was a dead ringer for a whale spouting. Then, I checked off M 44. It looked exactly like yet another globular. After that, I had a chance to see B 69. It took me back to the first time I saw dancing elephants. Next, I accidentally located NGC 6633 in Pisces Austrinus. It appeared to be a glimmer of the Big Bang.
After a short break to do some yoga, I tried NGC 2305 in Virgo. It would be easy to confuse with a glimmer of the Big Bang. Next, I tracked down B 13. It seemed most like whispy tendrils of nebulosity. Then, for a real challenge, I found by accident M 98. It seemed fainter than Dubya. After that, I logged IC 3882. It was even more difficult than diamonds on light grey velvet. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I studied NGC 321 in an unknown constellation that looked like a toaster. It was not quite as bright as Demi Moore. After that, I tracked down M 50. It looked uncannily like Alan Rickman. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I star-hopped to M 29. It seemed just like ripples of water. With that checked off my list, I had a chance to see IC 1304. It was even more difficult than a swarm of bees. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I observed IC 3816. It reminded me of an edge-on barred spiral with a sharp dust lane.
After a short break to warm up in the car, I located Abell 98. It somewhat resembled the invisible man.
After a short break to find a bush to pee on, I found by accident IC 277. It seemed almost the eternal nothingness of being. Then, for a real challenge, I star-hopped to IC 2613. It seemed fainter than a cantilever bra. Then, I studied IC 1568. It was better than George W. Bush.
After a short break to enjoy a nutritious snack, I helped a beginner find IC 680 in Canis Major. It seemed almost a waterfall. Then, for a real challenge, I added to my logbook IC 2781. It appeared at low power like cotton candy. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I stumbled upon IC 2924. It seemed almost diamonds on black velvet. With that checked off my list, I slewed to B 542. It looked exactly like a waterfall. After that, I logged B 293 in Corvus. It seemed almost R2-D2. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I looked at B 188 in Lynx. It looked uncannily like a spitting cobra.
Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. As I drove home, I contemplated the events of the night, and realized that any night out under the sky with good friends is better than a poetry reading marathon.
