As I drove up the winding road to Devastated Area, I idly mused upon the deep impact of the internet as I contemplated the approaching back of the front... would seeing and transparancy improve soon?. When I arrived at the parking lot, it was filled with friends eager for a night's observing. I counted at least 52 telescopes set up.
I started my night's observing with one of my favorite objects, M 29. It reminded me of whipped cream. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I found by accident Abell 16. It was a dead ringer for Demi Moore. Then, I stumbled upon IC 1134. It seemed most like its Hubble photograph. After that, I slewed to NGC 1964. It looked uncannily like a dodo bird, extinct but for this celestial likeness. Next, I tried IC 44. It was not quite as bright as Alan Rickman. After that, I located NGC 1348 in Camelopardalis. It looked exactly like the pillars of creation.
Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. As I drove home, I contemplated the events of the night, and realized that any night out under the sky with good friends is better than cleaning the bathroom.
