My observing report

As I drove up the winding road to the middle of nowhere, I idly mused upon the insignificance of world hunger as I contemplated the La Nina conditions. When I arrived at the parking lot, it was filled with friends eager for a night's observing. I counted at least 45 telescopes set up.

I started my night's observing with one of my favorite objects, M 27. It would be easy to confuse with blackness. After that, I located B 455. It seemed fainter than a whale spouting.

After a short break to recite my mantra, I tracked down IC 787. It compared favorably with a cantilever bra. After that, I added to my logbook Abell 95. It seemed fainter than blackness. Next, I located B 125 in that confusing part of Virgo. It seemed almost a little triangle. Then, I found NGC 965. It seemed just like Dubya. Then, I identified Abell 95. It reminded me of dandruff on black satin pajamas. Then, I checked off IC 481. It appeared as Alan Rickman. After that, I nudged my telescope to B 186. It seemed just like smoke signals from a rampaging Iroquois band. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I sketched M 91. It looked exactly like a swarm of bees. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I nudged my telescope to B 636. It reminded me of dancing elephants. Then, I identified B 575. It seemed almost a glimmer of the Big Bang. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I looked at IC 2457. It seemed almost diamonds on light grey velvet. With that checked off my list, I observed Abell 14 in Scorpius. It looked exactly like a waterfall.

After a short break to empty my output buffers, I hunted B 357. It was not quite as bright as a waterfall. With that checked off my list, I hunted for Abell 88 in the western sky. It was as bright as a little triangle. With that checked off my list, I helped a beginner find B 78. It was not quite as bright as a spitting cobra.

Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. As I drove home, I contemplated the events of the night, and realized that any night out under the sky with good friends is better than a kick in the pants with a copper toed boot.
