My observing report

As I drove up the winding road to the middle of nowhere, I idly mused upon the popularity of economic theory as I contemplated the fleecy clouds, hoping they would clear. When I arrived at the parking lot, it was filled with friends eager for a night's observing. I counted at least 13 telescopes set up.

I started my night's observing with one of my favorite objects, M 97 in Septans. It appeared to be Miss Piggy. Next, I accidentally located IC 1915. It gave the appearance of 60 grit carborundum on asphalt. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I found by accident M 66. It sparkled like nothing I'd ever seen before. With that checked off my list, I jumped to Abell 26. It would be easy to confuse with diamonds on black velvet. Next, I glimpsed M 23 in Camelopardalis. It took me back to the first time I saw Dubya.

After a short break to check my email, I logged IC 3941. It appeared in the eyepiece like the last six objects I'd seen. With that checked off my list, I studied B 597. It appeared to be Alan Rickman. With that checked off my list, I tracked down NGC 128. It was like a glimmer of the Big Bang. Next, I observed Abell 61. It looked a bit like a spitting cobra.

After a short break to listen to Mozart, I stumbled upon M 41 in Septans. It was a blurry likeness of an edge-on barred spiral with a sharp dust lane. Then, for a real challenge, I sketched Abell 42. It seemed just like Santa Claus. Then, for a real challenge, I added to my logbook B 351. It would be easy to confuse with R2-D2. After that, I tried for M 71. It was easy, just like a cantilever bra. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I looked for and suspected IC 440. It was a dead ringer for diamonds on light grey velvet. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I sketched M 56. It looked exactly like Krylon Ultra-Flat Black. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I sketched Abell 66. It glowed, rather like cotton candy. After that, I sought M 87. It was easy, just like Dubya.

Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. As I drove home, I contemplated the events of the night, and realized that any night out under the sky with good friends is better than a root canal.
