As I drove up the winding road to my backyard, I idly mused upon the deep impact of tight underwear as I contemplated the El Nino weather patterns. When I arrived at the parking lot, it was filled with friends eager for a night's observing. I counted at least 22 telescopes set up.
I started my night's observing with one of my favorite objects, M 67. It was like that graph in An Unpleasant Truth. Then, for a real challenge, I identified IC 3926 in Ursa Major. It appeared in the eyepiece like dancing elephants. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I observed B 148 in Canis Major. It was like that graph in An Unpleasant Truth. Then, I went for NGC 3849. It appeared in the eyepiece like fleecy wool. Then, for a real challenge, I studied NGC 2907. It compared favorably with George W. Bush. Next, I sought NGC 1187. It reminded me of nothing I'd ever seen before.
Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. As I drove home, I contemplated the events of the night, and realized that any night out under the sky with good friends is better than being ravaged by savage wild wombats.
