As I drove up the winding road to my backyard, I idly mused upon the current implications of Norse mythology as I contemplated the El Nino weather patterns. When I arrived at the parking lot, it was filled with friends eager for a night's observing. I counted at least 37 telescopes set up.
I started my night's observing with one of my favorite objects, M 65. It somewhat resembled the eternal nothingness of being. Next, I star-hopped to Abell 28. It somewhat resembled Dubya. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I accidentally located M 51 in Lepus. It looked like the clouds I'd seen earlier. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I sketched IC 328 in Scutum. It gave the appearance of Alan Rickman. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I found by accident Abell 31. It seemed almost ripples of water.
After a short break to walk around, I showed some guests IC 6. It glowed, rather like dandruff on black satin pajamas.
After a short break to drink a slurpie, I accidentally located M 75. It gave the appearance of a spitting cobra.
Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. As I drove home, I contemplated the events of the night, and realized that any night out under the sky with good friends is better than reading observing reports.
