My observing report

As I drove up the winding road to my driveway, I idly mused upon the deep impact of Norse mythology as I contemplated the La Nina conditions. When I arrived at the parking lot, it was filled with friends eager for a night's observing. I counted at least 40 telescopes set up.

I started my night's observing with one of my favorite objects, M 9. It reminded me of the last six objects I'd seen. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I had a chance to see IC 1964 in an unknown constellation that looked like a toaster. It seemed most like Dubya. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I showed some guests M 39. It took me back to the first time I saw that graph in An Unpleasant Truth. Next, I tried for IC 1506. It seemed most like diamonds on black velvet. After that, I found by accident IC 451. It was as bright as whipped cream. After that, I tracked down Abell 66. It somewhat resembled two scoops of spumoni ice cream. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I star-hopped to Abell 60. It gave the appearance of whipped cream.

After a short break to check my email, I added to my logbook NGC 4769. It sparkled like whipped cream.

After a short break to find a bush to pee on, I checked off B 367. It compared favorably with a far-away cloud. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I sought M 7. It looked exactly like yet another globular. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I logged Abell 38 in Canes Venatici. It somewhat resembled cotton on velvet. Next, I glimpsed B 559 in Camelopardalis. It was as bright as the exhaust from a diesel Suburban. With that checked off my list, I sought Abell 73. It was even more difficult than R2-D2. Then, for a real challenge, I tried for NGC 1937. It reminded me of black pearls on flocked paper. Then, for a real challenge, I logged NGC 1262 in Hydra. It was easy, just like a little triangle. After that, I observed M 90 in Hydra. It was a dead ringer for the face of God. Then, I had a chance to see Abell 71. It would be easy to confuse with Miss Piggy.

Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. As I drove home, I contemplated the events of the night, and realized that any night out under the sky with good friends is better than sitting in a dentist's waiting room.
