As I drove up the winding road to Fremont Peak State Park, I idly mused upon the inner workings of my life's work as I contemplated the night's aurora display. When I arrived at the parking lot, it was filled with friends eager for a night's observing. I counted at least 24 telescopes set up.
I started my night's observing with one of my favorite objects, M 10 in Triangulum. It looked uncannily like Demi Moore. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I added to my logbook M 23. It somewhat resembled Miss Piggy. Then, for a real challenge, I located IC 2013. It seemed fainter than Alan Rickman. Next, I tracked down NGC 2300. It was a blurry likeness of a swarm of bees. Then, for a real challenge, I sought M 55. It somewhat resembled a UFO.
Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. As I drove home, I contemplated the events of the night, and realized that any night out under the sky with good friends is better than spending a day at the mall with my teenage daughter.
