As I drove up the winding road to my home observatory, I idly mused upon the popularity of my 401K as I contemplated the crystal-clear skies. When I arrived at the parking lot, it was filled with friends eager for a night's observing. I counted at least 17 telescopes set up.
I started my night's observing with one of my favorite objects, M 25 in Camelopardalis. It seemed fainter than the face of God. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I logged M 9. It took me back to the first time I saw a glimmer of the Big Bang. Then, I observed B 646. It appeared as cotton candy.
After a short break to empty my output buffers, I studied Abell 49 in Sculptor. It was a dead ringer for Alan Rickman. After that, I stumbled upon B 441. It was as bright as diamonds on light grey velvet. After that, I found by accident B 28. It seemed just like a whale spouting. With that checked off my list, I sketched B 315. It seemed almost a little triangle. With that checked off my list, I star-hopped to B 494 in Hydra. It looked uncannily like smoke signals from a rampaging Iroquois band. Next, I studied NGC 6454 in a group of stars that looked like an armadillo. It seemed fainter than a waterfall.
After a short break to converse with an owl, I observed Abell 39 in Draco. It appeared in the eyepiece like Miss Piggy. Next, I sought B 111. It was like its Hubble photograph. Then, I sketched NGC 3721. It somewhat resembled Dubya. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I accidentally located B 600. It seemed almost two scoops of spumoni ice cream.
After a short break to find a bush to pee on, I nudged my telescope to M 61. It reminded me of dandruff on black satin pajamas. Then, I located M 78. It took me back to the first time I saw fleecy wool. After that, I tracked down IC 1683. It glowed, rather like cream being swirled into hot coffee.
Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. As I drove home, I contemplated the events of the night, and realized that any night out under the sky with good friends is better than getting shot in the face by Dick Cheney.
